Statement made!

Friday I asked the Tigers to make a statement and man did they. Five straight wins for our beloved Bengals from the Motor City. Friday and Saturday were good strong wins, Sunday was a win for the ages. A five run tenth inning capped off by a Cabrera walk off into the bullpen.

Last night we were treated to Verlander putting on a clinic with 14 k's over the hated Bronx Bombers,  with Porcello on the mound tonight we will need strong starts from Fister and Sanchez to take this series. After the four game series ends, the Tigers head down to the Texas heat.

Despite the five game streak the Tigs only have managed to shave a game off of the Sox division lead. Treading water this week will keep the Tigers close enough to catch the Sox in the next few weeks.

Ryan Raburn who is the local sports talk radios whipping boy is now on the d.l, Andy Dirks is back and playing well, and Cabrera and Fielder are doing what they are paid to do. If the starting pitching holds up we could just have baseball at Comerica Park in October.

Time to make a statement against the Tribe!

Tonight marks the opening of a 3 game tilt against the tribe from across Lake Erie. While during the first week of August you never want to use the words "must win," with the teeter tottering the Tigers have done all year, its time to get hot and stay hot.

Inconsistency has plagued Detroit since the second week of the season, with a couple short hot streaks mixed in, the lacklustre streaks have lasted much longer. They need a consistent month of August to catch and put some distance between them and the division leading White Sox. Sitting just 2 and 1/2 games back now is the time to make a move.

In the pursuit of the pennant the Tigers did receive the good news today that Andy Dirks returns tonight from his achilles injury suffered back in May. As Leyland is know to do Dirks will start immediately and bat 6th tonight. When Dirks left on May 31st he was batting .328 with 4 long balls.

Justin Masterson will open the series for the tribe he has been shelled recently giving up 8 earned runs in 2 of his last 5 starts.  Masterson dominated the Tigers giving up only 1 run in 7 innings back on May 24th.

Anibal Sanchez looks for his first win since he was acquired by Detroit, in a previous start he lost to the Tribe 2-0 earlier this season.

Cleveland comes in riding baseballs biggest losing streak, with Fister and Scherzer pitching the next 2 games Detroit has no excuse why the Trice isn't swept for a 3rd consecutive series.

Acquiring Anibal Sanchez Makes Tigers a Playoff Lock

By Josh Berenter of Bleacher Report

When the Detroit Tigers stumbled out to a 26-32 record through 59 games this season, it looked like all the experts who picked the Tigers to make the playoffs could be wrong.

But after Detroit went 16-8 in July and acquired starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez and second baseman Omar Infante, everyone's pick to win the American League Central is starting to live up to expectations and realize their sky-high potential.

Although the Infante acquisition was critically necessary for Detroit, the addition of Sanchez is the key that makes the Tigers a lock to make the playoffs.

Sanchez is a proven veteran who will give Detroit much-needed stability at the back end of a young rotation.

The 28-year-old right-hander from Venezuela didn't impress in his debut with the Tigers on Saturday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits, three strikeouts and three walks in six innings of work in a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

But Sanchez's pedigree suggests he'll bounce back.
